Our Program
The program is based on a dual language development model. Instruction takes place in an integrated educational environment that promotes bilingualism for students in the program.
Reading and writing are taught in Spanish with a gradual transition to reading and writing in the second language that does not affect the development of the first language. Science, social studies, math and health are taught in both languages. Music, art, and physical education are taught in English.
The Staff
Teachers and support staff are highly qualified, skilled, committed professionals. They represent a broad combination of experiences that enable them to work effectively as a team to meet the needs of all the students at Barnes Elementary.
How Your Child Can Participate
Barnes' dual language program is a neighborhood school program. Beginning the 2024-25 school year all kindergarten through 5thth grade classes will be bilingual. Grades Kinder-5 may be able to participate dependent on availability.
